Bagasse
The fibrous residue or pulp left over after sugar cane has been crushed and sugar extracted

Biodegradable
Ability to naturally degrade into the earth

Carbon footprint
The measure of the impact of activities on the environment, specifically greenhouse gases produced or the amount of carbon dioxide emitted

Percentage recycled
Whether 30%, 50% or 100%, the percentage recycled indicates the amount of recycled material the product contains

Pre-consumer recycled
Products that are made out of scraps and trimmings

Pre-consumer waste
Material that was discarded before it was ready for consumer use

Post-consumer recycled
Products that are made out of leftover material that would typically be thrown away, but is instead used and reprocessed

Post-consumer waste
Material discarded after someone uses it

Virgin paper
Paper manufactured from new wood pulp or cotton and does not contain any recycled material
